Do I need to fast prior to my testing?

Your physician will tell you if you need to fast for a blood test.
In general there are very few blood tests that require fasting. If your physician didn’t mention fasting, it is likely you do not need to.

Below are the general exceptions:

  • glucose test, when the “fasting” box is checked (see photo)

  • lipid / cholesterol test, if instructed directly to fast by your physician

With the above in mind, if you still are not sure and want to double check, please contact the facility you plan to complete testing at.
